Chat Themes

Plus brings a new way to customize your chat experience: Chat Themes. With Chat Themes, you can change the colors of your chat bubbles and the background of your chat screen to match your style.

Good to know:

  • Chat Themes are only available for Plus members. For group chats, the group owner needs to have an active subscription.
  • Your personal Chat Theme will only be visible to you but you can also change the Chat Theme for a group chat with the Manage Group permission, everyone in the chat will see the new colors.

Editing a group chat’s theme

  1. Go to your group chat and tap the Group info button (it looks like an i in a circle) at the top right of the screen.

  2. Once you’re there, if you have the Manage Group permission, you’ll see the Edit details button. Tap it to edit the group chat details.

  3. Scroll down to the Group Theme section and tap the Customize Theme button.

  4. You’ll see three colors: the first one is the primary color, the second one is the accent color, and the third one is the bubble color. Tap on each color to select it and use the color picker to choose the color you want.

  5. You will see a preview of the new colors and some predefined themes you can use. Once you’re happy with the colors, tap the Apply button to apply the new theme.

  6. Once you’re done, tap the Save button to save your changes.

Editing your chat theme

Now, you can also change the colors of your private chats and set up your own Chat Theme for all your direct messages. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Go to your Privacy Settings and tap the Direct Messages option.

  2. Once you’re there, you’ll see the Customize Theme button. Tap it to edit your Chat Theme.

  3. You’ll see three colors: the first one is the primary color, the second one is the accent color, and the third one is the bubble color. Tap on each color to select it and use the color picker to choose the color you want.

  4. You will see a preview of the new colors and some predefined themes you can use. Once you’re happy with the colors, tap the Apply button to apply the new theme.

Good to know:

  • If you join a group chat with a Chat Theme, you will see the group’s colors instead of your personal Chat Theme.
  • Only you will see your personal Chat Theme, everyone else will see the default colors or their own Chat Theme.
