Post replies and mentions

Join the conversation by replying to others and mentioning them in your posts. Here’s how you can do it.

About replies

• A reply is a response to another JOI’s post. You can reply to a post by clicking the Reply button (it looks like a chat bubble) from the post.
• When you reply to a post, your reply will have a Replying to… label when viewed in the timeline.
• If you click or tap on a reply, it will expand to show the post it’s replying to and the whole conversation thread.
• Replies from JOIs with protected posts will only be visible to their followers.
• Replies are ordered by the time they were posted.

How to post a reply

1. Go to the post you want to reply to.

2. Click the Reply button (it looks like a chat bubble) from the post.

3. The Post Composer will open, type your reply, and select Reply to post it.

Choose who can reply to your post

From the post composer:

1. Click or tap Everyone can reply, a pop-up will appear with the following options:

   • Everyone: This is the default setting. Anyone can reply to your post. If your posts are protected, only your followers can reply.
   • People you follow: Only people you follow can reply to your post.
   • Only people you mention: Only people who you mention in your post will be able to reply.

2. Choose the option you want.

3. When you’re done, select Post to publish your post.

After posting:

1. Click or tap the … icon on the top right of your post.

2. Select Change who can reply.

3. Choose the option you want. Your changes will be saved automatically.

Notes:

• People will see you’ve limited who can reply to your post.
• People you’ve invited to reply will see a label on your post indicating they can reply.
• Replies and Reposts will inherit the reply settings of the original post but Quote posts won’t.

About mentions

• A mention is a way to tag another JOI in your post.
• If someone mentions you in a post, you’ll see the post in your Notifications tab.
• Mentioning multiple JOIs in a post will create a notification for each of them.
• You can’t view posts that mention a JOI in their profile, however, you can search for posts mentioning a JOI using search.

How to mention a JOI

1. From the Post Composer, type the ”@” symbol followed by the JOI’s username. For example: “Hey @sydney, how are you doing?”

2. Select the JOI from the list of suggestions that appears.

3. Select Post to publish your post. If you’re replying to a post, select Reply.

When posted, the username will become a link to the JOI’s profile.
